More about the conference held at American Airlines Theatre
The New York Theatre in Our Schools inaugural conference was held at Roundabout Theatre’s American Airlines Theatre on Monday, April 19, 2010, beginning at 8:30am. Following registration and coffee, conference attendees attended one of two peer-led workshop sessions and a hands-on, participatory master class all centered on the theme of “A Culture of Collaboration.”  Attendees enjoyed a celebratory, profession-affirming day in which they shared their knowledge and added to their drama toolbox based on the work and the expertise of their peers.

Planning With The Kids In Mind: An Interactive Conversation On How to Effectively Collaborate
Jodi Dick Gelbman, Teaching Artist for Lincoln Center Theatre, presented a workshop focusing an often overlooked part of collaboration: planning.

Neo-Futurism in the Classroom
Rob Neill and Eevin Hartsough, members of the New York Neo-Futurists, presented a hands-on workshop that explores the aesthetic of Neo-Futurism (performing in the moment as you are) and explored the specific ways in which using the aesthetic can benefit students by strengthening collaboration, writing skills, and story-telling.

Enhancing the Collaborative Experience: Using Forum Theatre to Rehearse Creative Strategies for Resolving Issues That Arise During Arts Residencies
Carrie Ellman-Larsen and Meggan Dodd, Master’s of Arts candidates at CUNY School of Professional Studies in Applied Theatre, explored through an interactive workshop multiple perspectives of a residency (teacher, teaching artist, and administrator) and ways to work through issues that arise from the different points of view.

Through the Rehearsing Glass
Jessica Boyd and Elisa DeGregorio, classroom teachers from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis High School, along with teaching artist Gail Winar, examined creating an integrated arts program and how to use rehearsal techniques engage arts educators and classroom teachers in a collaborative exploration of active learning.
